Adults and Children Alike Go Wild for the Wild Space

The autumn programme of Wild Wednesdays is underway, and the feedback is just fantastic.  The free, weekly activities of ‘Into the Wild Adult Outdoor Group’ and ‘Forest & Fire’ for 10-16 year olds have already seen some tasty treats toasted on the fire, and generated feel good factor that is hard to beat having spent an hour and a half enjoying outdoor activities from conker collecting to melting magical s’mores over flames.

Into the Wild’s adult outdoor group, every Wednesday from 10-11.30am encourages people to come – on their own or as a small group – to join the brilliant Dr Gavin Walker for a chance to explore the natural environment and benefit from the positive mental health it brings.  Ideal for those either feeling isolated at home or wanting to take a break from days spent in front of a screen the regular workshop is proving a real pleasure for those involved.

The urban ‘wild space’ environment is a custom-made structure, funded by National Lottery Reaching Communities and Southern Water, that opened in 2022.  It is now used by local groups, schools and hosts activities provided by CCDT.

Wednesday afternoon sees children looking to become the next Bear Grylls enjoying the opportunity to explore outdoors, and get involved in some survival skills and bushcraft at Wild Space Forest & Fire from 4-5.30pm.  Young people in school years 6-11 are welcome to book a space to come join the group free of charge each week, promoting a desire to protect and conserve the natural world around us. Those who take part, if they have one, are encouraged to bring along a head torch for the winter months as darkness and bad weather are no barrier to these activities. Last week saw them collecting conkers, building shelters and enjoying nature!
