Park Friends: Beautifying Paths and Spotting Nature’s Hidden Gems

On Saturday 12 July 2025, under a blazing summer sun, Havenstoke Park was buzzing with the energy and enthusiasm of our amazing volunteers. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Park Friends and the dream team – Adam, Anna, and Pip – ably supported by Sue, for your brilliant help edging the footpath. Your dedication makes all the difference, and the park is looking tidier and more welcoming thanks to you!

Path edging might seem like a small task, but it plays a big role in keeping our green spaces accessible and inviting. That you took this on during such sweltering weather makes it all the more appreciated.

The day wasn’t just about hard work – it also brought along a beautiful discovery! Thanks for sharing the image of the Privet Hawk moth caterpillar, a dazzling lime-green gem that sparked fascination and conversation. Havenstoke Park continues to be a haven for wildlife, and with our many lime trees, we’re lucky to also host Lime Hawk moths. Both species add a splash of biodiversity and remind us of the magic living quietly in our urban green spaces.

Park Friends meet most Saturdays from 10am at The Pavilion, bringing dedication, good humour, and a love for nature that keeps our park looking beautiful year-round. Whether you’re trimming paths or spotting rare moths, every little action helps strengthen our community and the wild heart of our park, if you’d like to get involved, please email community@chichestercdt.org.uk for more details.

Thank you all — nature thrives when we come together!
