Walk and Talk: explore Graylingwell’s rich history
Arrive by 1pm at the beautifully restored Graylingwell Chapel. Once a sanctuary for patients, the Chapel now serves as a hub of historical discovery chronicling over a century of care. At 1.15 pm, set off from the Chapel on a captivating walking tour led by local historian Greg Slay. Delve into the fascinating history of Graylingwell Park, planned as the West Sussex County Lunatic Asylum but known throughout its operating life as Graylingwell Hospital. Discover the enduring Victorian and other historical buildings as you learn about the pioneering mental health care provided here from 1897 to 2001. Return to the Chapel afterwards by 3pm for a hot drink and a tasty treat from The Chapel Café and an opportunity to view the exhibits and reflect on the walk’s discoveries.
Tickets: £12 per person, including the drink and treat from The Chapel Café provided at the end of the walk.
