Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour in Chichester: How Residents Can Help

On 2nd December 2025, the Chichester Society organised a panel meeting to address the increase in anti-social behaviour (ASB) across the city. Key partners, including Sussex Police, Chichester District Council, Chichester BID, and other local stakeholders, attended. The outcome was very positive, with all parties agreeing to quarterly review meetings to monitor the situation and implement solutions.

As we approach the Christmas and New Year period, it’s important for residents to be aware of ASB and to support local efforts. During the festive season, there tends to be an increased number of people gathering on the streets, which can sometimes lead to incidents.

Why Reporting ASB Matters

ASB has a cumulative impact on both residents and local businesses. Reporting incidents may feel time-consuming, particularly when using the online form on the Sussex Police website, but it is critical. Accurate reporting allows authorities to:

  • Identify areas where ASB is increasing
  • Allocate police resources efficiently
  • Respond quickly to emerging issues

Providing specific details helps the authorities take action. Include:

  • Time and date of the incident
  • Address or location
  • Descriptions (e.g., distinctive clothing)
  • Photos, if available

Even if it feels like a small step, every report counts. Without this information, decisions such as increasing officer patrols or monitoring certain areas cannot be made effectively.

How You Can Help

If completing the online form is challenging, residents are encouraged to seek support from family, friends, or neighbours. And remember, in cases of immediate danger, always call 999.

You can report ASB directly to Sussex Police here:

Working Together

By taking a few minutes to report incidents, residents can help keep Chichester safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Tackling the Root Causes of ASB

While reporting and enforcement are vital, it’s equally important to address why anti-social behaviour occurs in the first place. Many young people lack safe, accessible spaces where they can spend time, express themselves, or develop new skills. Without positive outlets, frustration and boredom can sometimes spill over into behaviour that affects the wider community.

We are working hard to create safe, welcoming places for young people, spaces where they can meet friends, relax, or simply feel a sense of belonging.

As well as this, offering meaningful activities and creative outlets and supporting youth wellbeing and personal development. Giving young people guidance, encouragement, and community connections helps them build confidence and resilience.
