We’re pleased to report that all went well this week, as we planted two trees which replaced the two trees we had to sadly fell last year due to disease. The new additions of a Red Oak and a Liquid Amber are excellent varieties. These trees will bring colour, structure, and biodiversity to the landscape for many years to come. Both trees were checked and approved by CDC to ensure they were appropriate for the site before planting.
Following the recent triennial tree inspection, we’ve identified a significant amount of maintenance work that needs to be carried out to keep our trees healthy and safe. Some of this work will be undertaken by the Park Friends on Saturdays. Work will include mulching around trees and removing old stakes where they are no longer needed.
In addition, we have instructed our tree surgeon to carry out five days of deadwood removal, which does not require planning consent. There will also be two additional days of reduction and tree removal work, which will require approval from CDC before it can proceed.
Looking ahead, watering will soon become important again. Once the trees are fully in leaf, we’ll need to start watering not only the two trees planted this week but also others that have been planted over the past couple of years at Havenstoke Park and Keepers Green.
We are currently looking for volunteers who would be happy to help with watering. This can be done either as part of the Park Friends sessions on Saturdays or during the week when the Water Tower is open, allowing access to the water butt. If you are able to get involved, please let us know by emailing: community@chichestercdt.org.uk
A big thank you to everyone who continues to support this work. Your help plays a vital role in keeping the trees and the wider green spaces at CCDT alive, thriving, and healthy for the whole community.
