The autumn programme of events has now gone live at Graylingwell Chapel, bringing together live comedy, music and inspiration from some incredible speakers from para-Olympians to stars of the big screen.
The live music elements begins on the 29th September with folk legend Martin Simpson. Equally at home playing English traditional folk, American folk and blues and his own compositions, Martin is consistently named as one of the very finest guitar players in the world, listed in Gibson Guitars’ Top 30 Acoustic Guitarists of all time. Nominated as Musician of the Year by BBC Radio 2’s Folk Awards the team are extremely excited to have him playing such an intimate venue as the Chapel.
The season continues with the energy and entertainment of ze Trio, bringing three incredible musicians together to perform everything from Britney to Dizzee Rascal and back to the Beatles. More follows including a fundraising evening for Chestnut Tree House as Irrelevant Elephant perform their selection of jazz, latin and funk styles, with Gigspanner returning in December following their sell out concert earlier this year.
The Chichester Comedy Club is returning on the last Friday of every month from now up until Christmas, bringing comedians from far and wide. This month sees Edinburgh Fringe favourite Tom Toal as the MC, introducing Channel 4’s award winning Alan Francis as the headline act, alongside Stephen Grant and Victor Daniels.
Those looking to make a party night of it can look to book tickets for the brilliant Barn Dance on the 18th November where a live band will bring everybody to their feet, calling out the moves so even the most novice dancers can take to the floor. Alternatively, those looking for the ideal Christmas party for friends or businesses may want to book at table at the Tinwood tasting and DJ night on the 2nd of December.
Drinks tasting takes a variety of forms this autumn – in addition to the Tinwood Christmas party night there is a Wines of Italy tasting night hosted by local wine merchants Hennings providing a guide to the many tastes this Italy’s diverse landscape offers. Others may be drawn to the intriguingly titled ‘Cider is Wine Tasting’, sampling an array of wines made from apples, pears and other fruits. Expert in the field, Alistair will Alistair take visitors on a journey to discover and illuminate a whole new world of taste and experience with 6 ciders, perries and fruit wines that deserve appreciation as much as any fine wine.
Speakers at the Chapel include the extraordinary talent of Hugh Bonnevillle, one of Britain’s most accomplished actors, familiar to audiences worldwide for his roles in Notting Hill, the Paddington films and Downton Abbey. Hugh will be interviewed by the best-selling, local author Kate Mosse about stories included in his new autobiography ‘Playing Under the Piano’, which will be available as signed copies on the night.
In November there will also be ‘An Evening with Aaron Phipps’ – a real life super-human. A gold winning Paralympic champion, Aaron plays the brutal, only full-contact disability sport, Wheelchair Rugby aka Murderball. His team went from being 5th in the world to the best on the planet, in the middle of a global pandemic! Added to which Aaron scaled Kilimanjaro, at times on his hands and knees, to raise funds for his charity. This evening is sure to inspire all who attend, leaving everybody feeling productive, motivated and focused.
“We hope there is something for everybody in this season’s line up at The Chapel,” commented Clare de Bathe, CCDT Director. “Still in the first year of being open we’ve already learned a lot about what people want, and this second half of the year brings together so much talent and variety in what’s available, all at an affordable cost. We really look forward to welcoming faces we know well and lots of new people to this incredible venue.”
