A New Chapter for Shopwyke Lakes Pavilion: A Thriving Community Hub in the Making

Following a productive Community Thinking Day and meaningful collaboration with several local, purpose-led organisations, we’re excited to share the future plans for the Shopwyke Lakes Pavilion — a dynamic, flexible space designed to meet the needs of local residents and foster a strong sense of community.

A Space That Works for Everyone

From Monday to Friday, the Pavilion will offer vital nursery services for early years children. This will provide much-needed support for local families, delivering high-quality childcare in a warm, community-focused setting.

On Friday evenings and throughout the weekend, the Pavilion will be available for community hire — opening up opportunities for local groups, events, activities, and private functions. This dual-use model makes the most of the space, ensuring it remains active throughout the week, whilst available for private use at the weekends.

Crucially, this approach also enables a local small business to grow — allowing it to expand, register as a limited company, and offer local employment opportunities. It’s a great example of how community assets can serve both social and economic goals.

Supporting Local Sport

The surrounding pitches will become a home for Chichester Rangers Football Club (formerly Whyke United). The club will take on responsibility for maintaining the pitches, which are anticipated to be ready by August 2025, subject to weather conditions.

This development will provide much-needed space for football training and matches, supporting the growth of grassroots sport in the area.

The Chichester Bike Project Continues to Flourish

Just a short distance away, The Chichester Bike Project remains a fantastic local resource. It offers:

– A wide range of refurbished bikes for sale

– Acceptance of donated bikes

– Expert servicing to keep your bike in top condition

The shop is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm and the friendly team is always happy to help you with your biking needs. Whether you’re after a new set of wheels or need a quick tune-up, it’s well worth a visit.

Building for the Future

Importantly, these services and uses mean that the Pavilion and surrounding facilities will not become a financial burden on residents of Shopwyke Lakes. Instead, income generated will be used to create a sinking fund — ensuring money is available for future repairs, replacements, and maintenance.

This is about more than just buildings. It’s about creating thriving, well-used, and sustainable community spaces that works for everyone.

A Shared Commitment

These plans reflect a shared commitment to community, opportunity, and long-term sustainability. By investing in early years, grassroots sports, and accessible local services, we’re ensuring that Shopwyke Lakes grows into a vibrant place where people feel proud to live, work, and connect.
