Update on Marchwell Studios – July 2026

There’s been plenty of activity at Marchwell Studios over the past few months, and we’re delighted to share the latest progress on this exciting heritage restoration project. Marchwell Studios is being transformed into a creative enterprise hub that will provide inspiring workspace for artists, makers, creative businesses, and community organisations, while preserving an important part of Chichester’s heritage. The project continues to move forward steadily, with some major construction milestones now complete and the buildings beginning to reveal their future potential.

Weatherproof and Moving Forward

One of the biggest achievements has been the completion of all slate roofing works across the site. This means the buildings are now fully protected from the elements. The installation of bespoke timber windows is also nearing completion, with around 90% now in place, bringing the historic buildings another step closer to being fully weatherproof.

Work has also started within the courtyard, where drainage systems, service ducting and utility infrastructure are being installed. Foundations for the new accessible WC and communications room have been completed and approved, while first-fix electrical works, including the fire alarm system, are now underway.

Protecting Heritage While Creating New Opportunities

At the heart of the project is a commitment to conserving and celebrating the site’s heritage. Traditional materials and specialist conservation techniques are being used throughout the restoration to ensure the character and history of Marchwell Studios are preserved for future generations.

When complete, the studios will not only safeguard an important historic site but will also provide opportunities for creative enterprise, learning, collaboration and community engagement across Chichester.

Growing Our Team

As we move closer to welcoming future tenants, we’ve expanded the project team to support the next phase of delivery. We’re pleased to have recruited a Business Administration Apprentice through Chichester College, who is helping to manage enquiries from prospective tenants, maintain our growing database and support project administration. We’ve also welcomed a new Marketing Coordinator who will help develop the Marchwell Studios brand, promote the opportunities available and support future events and activities.

Looking Ahead

The coming months will see further progress on the internal restoration, courtyard works and preparations for welcoming future tenants. It’s exciting to see the vision for Marchwell Studios becoming a reality, and we’re looking forward to sharing more updates as the project continues to evolve.

Interested in Marchwell Studios?

Conversations continue with artists, makers, creative businesses and organisations who may be interested in becoming part of the Marchwell Studios community. We’re planning an Open Studio event in September 2026, where prospective hirers will have the opportunity to see the progress being made, explore the spaces and find out more about the vision for the project.
