Rubbish Festival litter-ally goes down a storm

The Rubbish Festival, this last weekend, was an outstanding success but it got me thinking about who benefitted the most. Was it…

The participants? Certainly the children and their parents who came along had a great time. There was amazing food at the café, a rubbish treasure hunt, a junk tombola (with proper prizes), and a competition to build a sculpture from the rubbish collected (they were amazing). But there were other winners too…

The environment? The treasure hunt took the participants around Graylingwell. They took part in games and collected rubbish along the way. On return, there was a sorting competition so there was plenty of opportunity to leave better informed about greener practices.

Youth Ambassadors? This was probably the best piece of event organisation that we’ve ever seen from the Youth Ambassadors. They applied for a grant from vinspired to fund the event and were successful.  On the day, the café was well-stocked and the café staff nailed the service! The games and activities were all superbly organised and ran smoothly. And many skills were gained along the way… the YAs had to be:

– Creative
– Communicate well
– Work together as a team
– Well-organised
– Flexible, taking changes in their stride
– Energetic…the YAs made the event come to life

If you know someone aged 11-18 who would like to join the Youth Ambassadors to have fun, gain skills and meet like-minded people, then please get in touch with Casper, who runs our youth programmes, on 07739 649477 or youth@wptest.chichestercdt.org.uk
